We provide basic education and support to parents with children living with cancer and HIV. In certain cases, these are conducted in a day care centre or shelter in collaboration with our partners.
Services provided in the day care setting are typically in the form of education conducted by our nurses and medical consultants, to help families and caregivers understand the medical condition of the children. This may include topics such as:
- Nutritional care for children with cancer and / or HIV
- Basic understanding about pain and symptoms to ensure better understanding by caregivers
- Wound care and management to ensure patient is kept comfortable when undergoing treatment
- Basic education about hygiene and maintenance of environment conducive for the child's healing
Education is also conducted for other health care professionals and health care volunteers to introduce different aspects of palliative care to the community.
